Telescoping Boom Lifts
Telescoping booms lifts are designed to mount a work bucket on an extendable, straight arm which is located on a rotating turntable. Usually, telescoping boom lifts are utilized for jobs which need reaching at maximum height, exceeding other kinds of lifts. For instance, employees are able to carry out exterior repairs or renovations on buildings of medium height but using these lifts instead of having the additional work of setting up a pulley system or an outside elevator.
The bucket of the boom lift generally only holds a single worker. These buckets are better suitable to particular jobs like for example electrical repair, rather than window washing or general maintenance. These lifts are offered with both outdoor and indoor tires and come in gas or electric configurations.
Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are named for the cross-braces below the work platform. These braces squeeze together in order to push the platform straight up. Since these machines must be directly positioned beneath the work site, as opposed to boom lifts, these units are way more limited in their use.
Scissor lifts do, however, offer larger platforms that allow the operator controlling the lift to access a bigger work surface once the lift is raised. With scissor lifts, all-terrain capability is less of an issue with these models, as they should sit on flat ground in order to be used. Scissor lifts are great for being utilized for cladding or window installation, because they provide the personnel with the desired mobility; they are also a great option for exterior repairs or window cleaning applications.
Boom Trucks vs. Cranes
The boom truck or cherry picker refers to the utility vehicle usually utilized to raise workers for different tasks done at heights. Typically, these kinds of trucks have a cab. It is here where the driver sits and controls the equipment. There is a bucket for where the worker can stand along with an actuator arm for raising the boom and a winch for lifting.
Boom trucks take personnel to heights which would usually be inaccessible. The function of cranes is to lift heavy supplies or equipment from one place to another. There are various types of cranes which can perform various purposes. Both of these different kinds of machines excel at different tasks and are suitable for specific applications and completing certain jobs.
