Utilized to both lower and lift loaded pallets from storage areas which are high is a narrow aisle forklift. This type is suitable for work places with narrow spaces between aisles, such as warehouses or retail environments. The forklift has small, solid rubber tires which make maneuvering easy.

The operator of this type of forklift normally stands up in a small cockpit. The stand-up design enables the narrow aisle forklift to be as narrow ans short as possible. A stand-up cockpit forklift usually has three tires: two in the front, and one in the back. This configuration allows for fast and easy maneuvering. There are some models of these forklifts which come with a sit-down cockpit. The lift attachment is capable of pivoting to the sides, allowing the lift to be operated without the operator having to move the whole equipment. The sit-down model usually has four wheels.

Many narrow aisle forklifts are powered by an electric engine. Machines that are electrically powered are quiet and do not make exhaust fumes, making them the preferred alternative for closed areas like retail spaces. Some lifts come with a diesel engine or a gas engine. However, the diesel version is not recommended for indoor use as it could produce exhaust and be noisy.
