Various Kinds of Aerial Lift
A specialized type of heavy machinery which allows a person to be raised into the air is aerial lifts. These machines are typically used to perform repairs on places which are high up in the air such as on roofs, near power lines and street-light fixtures. Similar to most tools, there are different kinds of aerial lifts that can be utilized to carry out different tasks. For the utmost safety, each type of different kind of equipment requires proper training and specific qualifications before operation.
Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are normally known as Genie lifts. They are considered the most basic kind of aerial lift. These lifts are made of a platform which is lifted up using pneumatic power and are mainly used for indoor applications. Usually, scissor lifts are the safest type of lift models. When completely compressed, these scissor lifts could be driven similar to large carts. Usually, when the platform is extended, they could not be driven for safety reasons. Before anybody could utilize these devices, workers should be certified as operators.
Boom Lifts
Compared to a scissor lift, boom lifts are much more complex type of aerial lift machinery. A boom lift has a wide base to be able to keep the lift anchored. It utilizes a jointed arm that has a bucket on the end of it. There is a control box situated in the bucket that enables the operator to lower and lift the bucket. Because the arm of the boom is jointed, it could move from side to side as well. The boom lift resembles a metal scorpion's tail. Traditionally, it is utilized in outdoor construction applications. The boom lift is considered to be more risky to operate compared to scissor lifts, hence, operators must be licensed separately for these kinds of lifts.
