Selecting Between Pneumatic and Cushion Tires
Forklift tires contribute a lot to your equipment's handling and safety features, as well as impacting maintenance expenses. The type of forklift determines to a large extent the type of tire since the majority of forklifts are made with a particular frame that accepts just a specific kind of tire. It helps to understand the properties of both cushion and pneumatic tires prior to choosing a tire.
Instructions
1 Check your forklift owner guidebook for specifications regarding tires. Most likely your forklift runs either on cushion tires or pneumatic tires. This will limit your options to the type of tire for which the forklift frame is built.
2 Check the type of forklift. Electric forklift trucks and electric pallet jack trucks usually are constructed to use cushion tires which do not require a lot of friction. Pneumatic tires are generally used for forklifts which are powered by liquid propane gas or diesel.
3 Check the kind of terrain. Soft cushion tires are made for even terrain while pneumatic tires are suitable for rough terrain. Cushion tires, if utilized on surfaces which are uneven, could cause the forklift to get stuck since they are set lower. Pneumatic tires perform well on gravel, packed stones and crushed concrete but not on really rough grounds and potholed surfaces.
4 Check space limitations. Forklifts utilized mainly indoors need to be able to turn in limited areas. Cushion tires truly work better than pneumatic tires in those kinds of conditions.
