Start-up of the forklift business
In the late 1960s, Korea promoted a national expansion of the industrial machines business. At that time, the Korean forklift market was an open-import situation. Korea Machinery Co., Ltd. began to import assembled forklifts and sell them to big businesses, the armed forces and state-run corporations. In the year 1976, Korea Machinery Co., Ltd. merged with Daewoo Heavy Industries Ltd. The company established service and sales outlets throughout the nation and, after a few years, opened its own forklift production plant. Product development and quality improvement through continuous technical training were the main focus of the plant.

Expansion of forklift exports
The market share of Daewoo Heavy Industries Ltd in the domestic forklift business went as high as 90%. By the 1980s, the sales of the company increases and technological improvements had drawn the interest of the American company, Caterpillar Industrial Inc. The two companies entered a joint-venture project during the early part of the 1980s to deal with competition faced by Caterpillar within the United States forklift market. The forklift sales of Daewoo skyrocketed and a new plant was constructed in the year 1984. Daewoo Heavy Industries Ltd. was then in a position to make forklifts intended for export. In the early 90s, Daewoo went global with a worldwide sales network. New kinds of forklifts were developed as an independent brand using Korean technology.

Development of new models
Developed during the year 1998 was the G5 series, the first series of proprietary models. These models were 1800 kg - 3000 kg internal combustion trucks. A research effort developed core technologies for engines, hydraulic systems and transmissions. Many performance and durability tests have confirmed the quality of this new family of trucks. The company established reliability evaluation centers to guarantee the reliability of major parts. These centers have garnered worldwide respect.

Well-known for its operator comfort and low environmental impact is the G5 series. The G5 is known all around the world for being reliable, operator friendly and durable. The series rated high among clients during large-scale, after sales surveys as part of a consumer-oriented advertising approach for these models.
